The UK Department for Business and Trade’s FPS team, in partnership with PWC SA, invites you to join this third session of the Digitisation series.
This webinar will focus on Cyber Resilience – the ability to anticipate, withstand, recover and adapt to cyber threats in a rapidly changing digital landscape.
In the previous webinars, we explored how Digitisation and Digital Products are transforming the African economy, especially in the areas of digital payments, e-commerce and fintech. We also discussed how Responsible AI can enable sustainable and inclusive growth, while addressing the ethical and social implications of artificial intelligence.
However, as we embrace the opportunities of digital transformation and innovation, we also face new and complex challenges in securing our digital assets and ensuring trust and accountability. This is compounded by the requirement to ensure data privacy where required. Cyberattacks are becoming more frequent, sophisticated and damaging, affecting businesses, governments and individuals alike. How can we protect ourselves and our organisations from these threats? Based on our own experiences, our rapid digital growth and our regulatory requirements to protect, what are the best practices and standards for implementing cybersecurity in the African context? How can we leverage the latest technologies and solutions to enhance our cyber resilience and ensure trust in the digital age?
These are some of the questions that we will explore in this webinar, with the help of our expert speakers and panellists. We will also share the key findings of our 2023 Global Digital Trust Insights survey, which reveals the state of cybersecurity on the African continent and the emerging trends and opportunities for improvement.”
The confirmed speakers will include:
Junaid Amra – Partner in the Consulting & Risk division of PwC South Africa where he is leading the Forensics Technology Services practice. In his role he assists clients with electronic investigations, incident response and providing support to investigation teams where electronic devices or big data form part of the investigation.
Hamil Bhoora – Partner in PWC’s cybersecurity practice responsible for managing a team of cyber professionals.
Kamil Reddy – Experienced privacy professional for over 15 years. He has experience both as a consultant providing advice and in more hands-on roles having lead privacy functions at multi-national organisations, including those with an African footprint.
We’re excited to embark on this journey to new horizons with you.

Some of us might be used to working with OKRs (Objectives and Key Results) and KPIs (Key Performance Indicators), but it’s often a struggle to connect the achievements of reaching the OKRs and hitting the KPIs with our own personal growth – be that growth within our career progression aspirations, or in achieving that deeper sense of intrinsic motivation in terms of understanding our value at a personal level.
“Impact” really is the essential addition to make that connection.
In this talk, Dan Ashby will present a “Career Impact Framework” that has been developed over the past 6 years. He will share stories and examples of various situations of this framework in use and how it’s helped overcome morale challenges, supported people get extrinsic rewards such as promotions, assisted with overcoming behavioral “gamed-growth” situations, and ultimately helped people “grow” in their careers.
All meetings, unless otherwise stated, are held on the first Wednesday of each month at 6:30 pm at Skyscanner Limited, Quartermile One, 15 Lauriston Place, Edinburgh, EH3 9EN.(Note that Skyscanner will require you to sign a Non Disclosure Agreement (NDA) for entry to their offices).
Refreshments are available from 6:00 pm.
All meetings are free of charge and non members are welcome to all meetings. Please register via the Eventbrite link given for each meeting.

As government and industry partner to achieve net zero by 2050, opportunities to develop the digital framework to underpin a smart, flexible energy sector emerge. The energy sector of the future will comprise millions of assets ranging from solar panels to heat pumps, with smart technologies in between. These technologies will play a crucial role in optimising operations and reducing energy consumption and costs by visualising real time energy consumption, tapping into demand side response to shift electricity use at peak times and access the lowest energy prices.
